About our new roof snagging in Faberstown

Ventilation matters on a new roof. We look for ridge, eaves or tile vents where they’ve been fitted and look in the roof space for condensation. We note what we can see. Missing or blocked ventilation can lead to condensation over time, so it is worth raising early. We record what we see. If you are worried about loose or badly finished ridge tiles and underlay at the eaves left exposed, we can find out what’s behind it.

Being in a small place like Faberstown makes no difference to the inspection itself: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed beforehand. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them when booking, so the visit can be planned around them. Buyers and owners of new roofs get the same approach as anywhere. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Around Faberstown, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, you tell us what the roofer did and any concerns you have.
  2. The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can safely be seen.
  3. We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it’s visible.
  4. The roof space is looked at where safe, along with any mess or damage left after the work.
  5. You get a photo report listing the snags we found.

Advice

Faberstown: your questions answered

Is Faberstown in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.

Is Faberstown within the area you cover?

Yes. Faberstown is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

What does a new roof inspection include?

We check the coverings, ridges, verges, hips, valleys and flashings plus gutters, ventilation and visible underlay at the eaves. We also look for debris left behind and damage to other parts.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you lift tiles to check the fixings?

No, we don’t disturb the new coverings. Most fixings sit out of sight under the coverings, but we check everything we can see safely.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Defects and warranty periods have an end date. Checking the roof before it ends gives you time to raise anything we find. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Faberstown

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.

Landlords and letting agents in Faberstown book surveys as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the new roof.

DIY checks: what’s safe

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Useful tips for Faberstown property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Tell your roofer the work will be inspected
  • Book snagging before the final payment
  • Look for debris left in gutters from the ground
  • Keep warranty papers safe

If anything in the report isn’t clear, ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person one.

Watch for leaks, damp or loose pieces in the first months. Early signs are easier to raise while the work is recent.

What this survey cannot tell you

It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • Whether the roof will leak in future
  • Deciding who is at fault in a disagreement
  • Parts of the roof we can’t see safely

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

Buying a home or a new roof in Faberstown

There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. The covering on a house you are buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest.

For landlords with property near Andover station, a roof report gives you a clear picture before you buy or settle up with a roofer. The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter in the Wood are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, ask the seller about past roof repairs, because older roofs often have patched valleys, replaced slates and reset ridges.
