Roof surveys in Hampshire

Our roof survey service in Hampshire

There are three levels of survey: a Basic Survey from £150, a Standard Survey from £250 and a Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Every package includes a written report. We survey lead flashings, chimney stacks and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are worn lead at chimneys and abutments and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters.

You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. You let us know about the property and any concerns.
  2. We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
  4. Every part of the roof is checked and photographed.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Around Basingstoke

Around Basingstoke, our work takes us to homes and buildings near King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery, Cranbourne and Eastrop Park and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Rising Sun pub (0.5 miles north-east), St Michael's Church (0.5 miles east) and The Costello School (1 mile east). The closest station to Basingstoke is Basingstoke station, about 0.6 miles east. Nearby you will also find Basing House (2.2 miles east) and The Malls (0.6 miles east). Not far away are Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

Homes and roofs across Hampshire

From Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport to its smaller places, buildings across Hampshire have roofs of every age. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are normally where the work is.

Even in the South East, autumn and winter storms find any loose slate, tile or ridge. Ridges, verges and flashings in Hampshire are where it typically shows. Parts of Hampshire are coastal, so wind can decide whether a drone flies or a roof can be reached safely. A windy forecast can mean a change of date.

Basingstoke: The Vyne, about 2.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Basingstoke. Older roofs nearby frequently mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is. The streets around a church such as St Michael's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

How the survey changes by roof type

Lead flashings and valleys

Lead flashings seal chimneys, walls and abutments. Lifted, split or slipped lead is recorded, and for flashings replaced with mortar or bitumen.

Flat roof coverings

Some flat roofs have been coated over several times. If the covering would need opening up to know more, we say so.

Why get it checked now?

Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. Our report gives you a record of how the roof is today, so you can compare it next time.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Their insurance cover
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Useful tips for Hampshire property owners

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
  • Check the roof from the ground after storms
  • Have details of recent roof work to hand
  • Keep a record of damp patches and dates

The Premium Survey includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows how the roof has fared over the year.

Look at your roof from ground level after strong winds. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Hampshire

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

Your questions about roof surveys in Hampshire

What does a roof survey include?

We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, along with the loft where it’s safe. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.

How much does a roof survey cost in Hampshire?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before you book, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.

Will the report say how many years my roof has left?

We do not put a figure on it, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.

What if it rains on the day?

It depends on the weather and the survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do you carry out asbestos surveys?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
