Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Lyde Green
We inspect what can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where conditions allow. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging and, where applicable, a drone, which helps with tall or steep roofs. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. We survey chimney stacks, ridges, hips and valleys and natural slate, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and loose chimney pots.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Your questions about roof surveys in Lyde Green
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Hook station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
Will you come out to Lyde Green?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, along with the loft where it is safe. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared chimneys and party-wall upstands are looked at from your side.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Lyde Green
Planned work is less stressful than an emergency. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than calling someone out after a storm. For older village homes like those around Lyde Green, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

What else we do in Lyde Green
What we do, step by step
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Lyde Green, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- Outside, we inspect from the ground, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- We email a report with photographs and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Find any records of previous roof work

Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
When you need someone else
Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Lyde Green homes and their roofs
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. The wider area around Lyde Green has a long history of building, with Stratfield Saye House about 2.8 miles north. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.
The streets around a church such as Rotherwick Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. For landlords with property near Hook station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. Anyone responsible for a site like Whitewater Church of England Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Roof by roof
Natural slate
Many Victorian and Edwardian houses have slate roofs. Where several slates have slipped, the cause is often nail fatigue, and we say how widespread it looks.
Chimney stacks
We look at the stack itself, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We’ll tell you if the flue needs a specialist.
