Roof Survey in Hampshire

Our roof survey service in Hampshire

Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Slate often lasts a century or more, and tiles commonly half a century, yet nails, battens and underlay frequently fail first. We tell you which parts are ageing and which are sound. That lets you plan work in good time rather than after a leak. We survey lead flashings, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are torn or sagging underlay and worn or blocked valleys.

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect an hour or two for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

How our prices work

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across Hampshire

Across Hampshire, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, from Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport to the quieter places in between. Every report comes with photographs and written recommendations.

Autumn and winter storms across the South East find any loose slate, tile or ridge. Ridges, verges and flashings in Hampshire are where it normally shows. Along the coast in Hampshire, roofs facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, so ridges, verges and flashings there frequently need attention first.

Basingstoke: Anyone responsible for a site like King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Michael's Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.

How we price roof surveys

We confirm the price for your roof before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The size of the roof
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.

What to let us know when you get in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know

Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Hampshire

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

How the survey changes by roof type

Natural slate

From the loft, we check the underside of a slate roof. There may be old felt underlay, or none at all on very old roofs, and we note its condition.

Concrete interlocking tiles

On low-pitched roofs, the laps and fixings of interlocking tiles matter. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted.

What you can safely check yourself

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

Signs you need a roof survey

Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack away from the wall. Lead is also a target for theft.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
  • Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
  • Flashings that have come away from the wall
  • Loose chimney pots

Hampshire questions

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Is Hampshire in your area?

Yes. We survey roofs in Hampshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. For a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you carry out asbestos surveys?

No. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag materials that could contain it, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.

What’s covered in a roof inspection?

Every part of the roof we can safely see: coverings, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and the loft. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.

How long will you be at the property?

Allow roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. We will give you an idea of timing when you book.

How much does a roof survey cost in Hampshire?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.

Can you tell me how long my roof will last?

Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, with recommendations ranked by urgency.
