Roof survey in Curdridge: what you get

We survey roofs in Curdridge and across London and South East England. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs and clay and concrete tiles, and people most often book us about loose chimney pots and leaking gutter joints and downpipes.

Somewhere as small as Curdridge, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Curdridge: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Curdridge is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you cover smaller places like Curdridge?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Do you look in the roof space?

If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.

Do you carry out asbestos surveys?

No. Asbestos testing is not part of our service. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.

How do I arrange a roof survey in Curdridge?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What happens on the day

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older rural homes like those around Curdridge can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
  3. Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
  4. We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
  5. We email a written report with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Related advice

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
  • Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof surveys in Curdridge: local notes

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. If you let a flat or house near Botley station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Anyone responsible for a site like Curdridge Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Prices for roof surveys in Curdridge

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How big the roof is

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Useful tips for Curdridge property owners

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Stay off ladders and the roof
  • Let us know about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
  • Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
  • Keep the report with your property records

With the Standard Survey you get a follow-up consultation, while Premium includes a consultation in person. You can ask us about anything that is not clear.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear of leaves and moss, ideally after the leaves have fallen. Use a gutter contractor rather than climbing a ladder yourself. Clear gutters prevent a lot of damp.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaks rarely show up right away. Insulation, plaster and timber can all be damp before you see a stain. From inside the roof space, we can frequently spot it sooner. In a place like Curdridge, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.
