Our roof survey service in SO30
Our roof surveys cover SO30 and the wider South East. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you are ready to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey chimney stacks, the roof space and natural slate, and common reasons people get in touch are ridge tiles that have lifted or moved and torn or sagging underlay.
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
How our prices work
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Around Hedge End
We work in homes and buildings around Wildern School, Church of St John the Evangelist and Shamblehurst Primary School. For rail, the closest station is Hedge End station, roughly 1.2 miles north of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Netley Castle (3.6 miles south-west) and Bursledon Brickworks Industrial Museum (2 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Netley Common.
Roof surveys across SO30: local notes
From Eastleigh, Hedge End and West End to smaller places, people across SO30 use a roof survey to plan ahead. A report helps you sort small faults before they let water in.
From inner London terraces to Kent oast houses, Sussex tile-hanging and Hampshire thatch, the South East has a huge mix of roofs. Roofs in SO30 are part of that picture. Near the sea in SO30, roofs face stronger wind and salt-laden air, which wears metal fixings and flashings faster. Ridges and verges facing the sea are worth checking after every big storm.
Hedge End: For landlords with property near Hedge End station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. The streets around a church like Church of St John the Evangelist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
When you need someone else
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
- A full building survey of the property
- A structural engineer’s report
Roof by roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Older homes in the Weald and across the South East often have clay plain tiles. Rotten pegs and battens let tiles move.
Natural slate
Inside the loft space, we check what’s under the slates. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none, and we note its condition.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps when budgeting.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
Why roofs fail
Every roof takes years of rain, wind, sun and frost. Strong gusts work at anything that isn’t firmly fixed, while rain gets into every gap. What starts as one slipped slate can become a leak.
We are often asked to look at:
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
What affects the price in SO30
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How big the roof is
Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

SO30 questions
Do you need to get into the loft?
Normally, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
How much does a roof survey cost in SO30?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How long will you be at the property?
It typically takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Report times depend on the package.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. We do not provide structural calculations.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. Next door’s roof is only inspected as far as we can see it. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
When will the report arrive?
Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
