Independent roof surveys in Harestock

Roof survey in Harestock

People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, while others just want to know where they stand. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. If you’ve noticed crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching and lifted, split or missing lead flashings, we can find out what’s behind it, on clay and concrete tiles, lead flashings and natural slate alike.

Houses in smaller places like Harestock can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to.

Harestock questions

I let a flat near Winchester station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, letting agents and landlords book with us as well as owners. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the building.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Harestock?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Is Harestock in your area?

Yes. We carry out roof surveys in Harestock.

How much does a roof survey cost in Harestock?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

How long does a roof survey take?

The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. We’ll give you an idea of timing when booking.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.

Honest limits

It helps to know what a survey will not do before you book:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • A full building survey of the property
  • Asbestos testing of any kind

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Lead flashings
  • Flat roofs
  • Natural slate
  • Ridges, hips and valleys
  • The roof space
  • Chimney stacks
  • Clay and concrete tiles

Common roof problems in Harestock

A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
  • Worn or blocked valleys
  • Torn or sagging underlay
  • Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved

The streets around a church such as Saint Barnabas are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • What the survey will not cover
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What’s in a roof survey

Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Tell us about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
  • Don’t climb onto the roof yourself
  • Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
  • Have details of recent roof work to hand

Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. The photos show what we found and where, which makes quotes easier to compare.

Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, ideally after the leaves have fallen. Use a gutter contractor rather than climbing a ladder yourself. Clear gutters prevent a lot of damp.

Why act early in Harestock

Planned work is less stressful than an emergency. With a report, you can tackle the urgent jobs first and plan the rest, rather than waiting for something to fail. Around Harestock, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than the original defect.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Why us?

  • An independent view of the roof
  • 98% customer satisfaction
  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability
  • More than 5,000 surveys completed

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

What happens on the day

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. A visit to Harestock is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it’s safe.
  4. Every part of the roof is checked and photographed.
  5. We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Roof surveys in Harestock: local notes

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Harestock Primary School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
