Roof survey in Weeke, Hampshire
A careful look at the roof at your property in Weeke, and put it all in a written report with photos.

- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Weeke
Across London and the South East, roofs differ widely. A Victorian or Edwardian terrace may have slate, a central valley gutter and parapet walls, and many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles instead. We adapt the survey to the roof in front of us. Older tiled homes may have clay plain tiles, and many homes have a flat-roofed extension too. Every part gets the attention it needs. We are often asked to look into slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and worn or blocked valleys, on chimney stacks, natural slate and the roof space.
Houses in smaller places like Weeke can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose before it lets water in. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Weeke homes and their roofs
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Matthew, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. If you look after a building like Weeke Primary School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Parking around Weeke is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there is safe access.
- We email a written report with photographs and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
We check the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings of each stack, as far as we can safely see them. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Interlocking tiles on shallow roofs depend on their laps and fixings. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted, particularly at the verges and ridge.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Weeke
A roof that has had no attention for years can surprise you. A survey sets a baseline, so you can compare it next time. Around Weeke, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Weeke
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
What we’re asked to look at in Weeke
Not every roof problem comes from outside. Poor ventilation lets condensation build up in the loft, wetting timbers and insulation. It is often mistaken for a leak.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
If you own a rental within reach of Winchester station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.
What to check before booking
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- Whether VAT is added on top
Questions from Weeke
I let a flat near Winchester station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, that’s a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.
Is Weeke within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. We flag materials that could contain it, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Does someone need to be in?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when booking.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Useful tips for Weeke property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Keep a record of damp patches and dates
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Let us know about past leaks
File the report with your other home documents. It gives you something to compare against later, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.
