Roof survey in Canada
Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and where it’s relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. If you’ve noticed condensation or damp timbers in the loft and gutters that overflow in heavy rain, we can find out what’s behind it, on clay and concrete tiles, chimney stacks and lead flashings alike.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Hidden gutters and valleys can fail without warning. When they do, water comes straight into the house. A survey checks them while they’re still dry. Outbuildings and barns around Canada are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Booking your survey
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
What we do, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Somewhere as small as Canada, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Check we can get to the back of the property

Canada questions
Is my home in Canada listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Canada?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
How long does a roof survey take?
It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Report times depend on the package.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
Do you use drones?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Roof surveys around Canada
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. About 2 miles north-west lies Landford Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Canada has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.
If you own a rental within reach of Romsey station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Take a building like Wellow School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
Canada is about 5 miles north-west of Totton, in Hampshire. Wherever you are in Canada, we can come and survey your property. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, large and small. There is also a page for Southampton.
Postcode districts we cover here for roof surveys: SO51. Other places close to Canada include West Wellow (1 mile north), Blackhill (1 mile east), East Wellow (1 mile east), Newbridge (2 miles south) and Plaitford Green (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Winchester (14 miles north-east), Eastleigh (11 miles east), Totton (5 miles south-east), Chandler's Ford (9 miles east), Hedge End (13 miles east) and Lymington (14 miles south).
What’s near Canada
Typical jobs here are in homes near Rockingham Arms and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Romsey station, about 4.6 miles north-east of the centre. A little further out are Tatchbury Mount Hospital (3.5 miles south-east). Open spaces near Canada include Copythorne Common.
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
We look at the stack itself, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If a specialist is needed, we will say so.
Flat roof coverings
Ponding, blistering, splits and cracked surfaces are the common warning signs. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets, since leaks often start there.
Honest limits
It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- An exact number of years the roof has left
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Tips that help
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Leave roof access to professionals
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
File the report with your other home documents. It gives you something to compare against later, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.
Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Look for water marks, damp wood and chinks of light. Take photos of anything that changes.
