Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Blackmoor
We survey roofs in Blackmoor and across London and the South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you are ready to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you’ve noticed cracked or blistered flat roof coverings and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

What we do, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Blackmoor can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
Arrange a survey
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
What we can’t see
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flat roofs
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Chimney stacks
- The roof space
- Natural slate
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Lead flashings
How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roof coverings
Some flat roofs have been coated over several times. We say what we can see and when a closer look would need opening up.
Lead flashings and valleys
Most leaks begin at a joint rather than the middle of a slope. That is why we look at them closely.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Blackmoor
If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If you live in an older home near St Matthew's Church, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Landlords with a home close to Liss station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Take a building like St Matthew's Church of England Aided Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Questions from Blackmoor
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Blackmoor?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is Blackmoor within the area you cover?
Yes. Blackmoor is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?
Yes, we inspect your part of the roof. Next door’s roof is only inspected as far as we can see it. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?
We do not put a figure on it, because so much depends on the fixings, underlay and upkeep. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
