Longmoor Roof Survey
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings in Longmoor. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Loose chimney pots
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
Different roofs, different checks
Flat roof coverings
Repeated coatings can hide what’s underneath. We say what we can see and when a closer look would need opening up.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles are common on older South East homes, and some have Kent peg tiles held by pegs. Rotten pegs and battens let tiles move.
Roof survey in Longmoor
Our roof survey gives you a clear picture of your roof’s condition. We check the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, and the loft space where there is safe access. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations. Where it is relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. We survey natural slate, flat roofs and lead flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flashings that have come away from the wall and torn or sagging underlay.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What happens on the day
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes an hour or two at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Rural addresses near Longmoor can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a report with photographs and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice
What you can safely check yourself
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What else we do in Longmoor
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- File the report with your home documents
- Check the roof from the ground after storms
The Premium Survey includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows how the roof has fared over the year.
Look at your roof from the ground after strong winds. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.
Your questions about roof surveys in Longmoor
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Longmoor?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is Longmoor within the area you cover?
Yes, Longmoor is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Higher packages add moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
We don’t put a figure on it, because so much depends on the fixings, underlay and upkeep. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we will explain what’s needed.
How long does the visit take?
It normally takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only when it’s safe. We also use views from the ground, windows and the loft space, and Premium includes a drone where applicable.
Longmoor homes and their roofs
A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If you look after a building such as Greatham Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If you let a flat or house near Liss station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
