Drone roof surveys in Longmoor: local notes

If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For any home in Longmoor, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

Longmoor is about 3 miles south of Bordon, in Hampshire. In Longmoor, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Longmoor is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work. Guildford is in our area too.

Surveys in GU33 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Whether your property is on Woolmer Road, Roberts Road and Methuen Road or a nearby road, we can help. We also cover Greatham (1 mile west), Woolmer (1 mile north-west), Liss Forest (2 miles south-west), The Mint (2 miles south) and Blackmoor (2 miles north-west). Drone roof survey in Longmoor

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you’ve noticed wind damage high on the roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.

Villages like Longmoor often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

How we price drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Height and safe access
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What to tell us when you contact us

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • When you need the report by
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

How it works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Longmoor, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Getting a price

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

Related advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. For an older or listed building in a place like Longmoor, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Longmoor

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Flashings that have come away

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Greatham Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Will the report include photos?

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Longmoor

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Longmoor?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Longmoor?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Will I get photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
