Flying and imaging in Fleet
Fleet is about 3 miles from Farnborough Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
Take a building like Heatherside Junior School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near Fleet Methodist Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Hart Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.
Fleet is about 13 miles south-east of Reading, in Hampshire. In Fleet, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire. You can also see our page for Guildford.
Postcode districts we cover here for drone roof surveys: GU51, GU52 and GU10. We offer drone roof surveys to properties on Church Road, Durnsford Avenue and Hankins Court. We also cover the places around Fleet: Church Crookham (1 mile south-east), Crookham Village (1 mile west), Elvetham Heath (1 mile north-west), Dogmersfield (2 miles west) and Elvetham (2 miles north-west). Larger places within reach include Basingstoke (11 miles west), Farnborough (3 miles north-east), Aldershot (4 miles south-east), Alton (10 miles south-west), Yateley (4 miles north) and Tadley (14 miles north-west). About our drone roof survey in Fleet
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We’re frequently asked to look into ridge and hip pieces working loose and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, across large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks.
Older homes in a town like Fleet may lose heat through roofs with little or no insulation. Thermal imaging can show where heat escapes, and it can also point to damp patches. What it shows is surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Results depend on the conditions, which is why the date is chosen with care.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How it works
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Semi-detached and terraced homes in a town like Fleet often share a roof line with the neighbours, so shared parts are looked at as far as they can be seen from your property. It is useful to know about previous repairs, leaks or recent work.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Related advice
Why it’s worth a survey now in Fleet
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. A defect spotted early can be planned and budgeted for, while one found after water comes through usually has to be dealt with in a hurry.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

FAQs for Fleet
Do you cover Fleet?
Yes, Fleet is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is my home in Fleet listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
What about my neighbours’ privacy?
We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying. We inspect only the roof you’ve asked about. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?
Sometimes, with permission. Airports such as Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.
Honest limits
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
What we check
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
What affects the price in Fleet
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- When you need the report by
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
