Thermal roof surveys around Fleet

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Farnham Castle, about 4.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Fleet. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For an older house near a landmark such as Fleet Methodist Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Heatherside Junior School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you run a business near Hart Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Fleet is about 13 miles south-east of Reading, in Hampshire. In Fleet, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, large and small. Our Guildford page covers surveys nearby.

All of GU51, GU52 and GU10 is covered for thermal roof surveys. If you need a thermal roof survey at a property on Church Road, Durnsford Avenue and Hankins Court or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Main roads around Fleet include the A323 and A3013. Other places close to Fleet include Church Crookham (1 mile south-east), Crookham Village (1 mile west), Elvetham Heath (1 mile north-west), Dogmersfield (2 miles west) and Elvetham (2 miles north-west). Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Fleet

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. If you’re worried about cold spots on ceilings under the roof and heat escaping through the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Around a town like Fleet, steep roofs, tall gables and rear slopes are often hidden from the ground. A drone can take close-up photos of them, and thermal imaging can show patterns of heat loss or trapped moisture. Each needs the right weather, so the date is set with the forecast in mind. A typical example is the rear slope over a back addition, which cannot be seen from the street.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How it works

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. A visit in Fleet runs most smoothly with the loft hatch clear, side gates open and a parking spot in mind. If you will not be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Leave it or get it looked at?

Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. That helps you and your roofer decide what really needs replacing. On a house in a town like Fleet, wet loft insulation stops working and can stay damp for a long time. That is an extra cost on top of the roof work itself.

How the survey changes by roof type

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences often show through. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.

What we cannot see

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces

What you can safely check yourself

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Common questions in Fleet

Do you carry out roof surveys in Fleet?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Fleet is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.

How do I find out if my home in Fleet is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

How quickly is the report sent?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. We check what it shows with moisture readings.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Fleet

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • The size of the roof
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
