About our drone roof survey in Havant
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are ridge and hip pieces working loose and wind damage high on the roof.
Around a town like Havant, steep roofs, tall gables and rear slopes are often hidden from ground level. Close-up drone photos and thermal images show what binoculars from the pavement cannot. Each needs the right weather, so the date is set with the forecast in mind. Rear slopes over back additions are a common example, as they’re rarely visible from the street.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Before and after the survey
Small things make a difference. Our tips:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
Flying and imaging in Havant
Havant lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
With Warblington Castle about 1.5 miles south-east, the area around Havant has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. For an older house near a landmark such as St Francis, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Havant is about 18 miles east of Southampton, in Hampshire. Whether the building in Havant is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. Havant is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work for drone roof surveys.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Havant
Are there drone restrictions around Havant?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Is my home in Havant listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Light rain is usually fine; heavy rain and wind are different. Strong wind or a downpour can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.
Do you look in the loft space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Havant?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Havant
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In Havant, parking is rarely complicated, though it is useful to know about driveways or restrictions. We look at the roof from the ground and from windows, then from the loft where there is safe access, and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Advice
Honest limits
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Havant
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
If you look after a building such as Trosnant Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
What to check before booking
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- What follow-up you get after the report
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Is VAT included in the price?
