Roof surveys across PO9

How a roof survey works in PO9

Our report is written in plain English, not jargon. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and where it’s relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. We survey natural slate, lead flashings and the roof space, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cracked mortar along the ridge and worn lead at chimneys and abutments.

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

What you will pay

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Roof surveys across PO9: local notes

Homes across PO9 range from older properties with chimneys and lead flashings to newer houses with concrete tiles. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked, wherever they are in PO9.

Across London and South East England, older homes frequently have slate or clay tiles, while many later ones have concrete tiles. That variety shapes every survey in PO9. Some of PO9 sits close to the sea, so wind can decide whether a drone flies or a roof can be reached safely. If conditions are not right, the visit moves to a calmer day.

Havant: For landlords with property near Havant station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. If you look after a building such as Trosnant Infant School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Roof by roof

Natural slate

Many Victorian and Edwardian houses have slate roofs. Widespread slipping usually points to corroded nails, which we describe in the report.

Lead flashings and valleys

Flashings close the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped.

Practical tips

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Tell us about any leaks or stains you’ve seen
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
  • Leave roof access to professionals

We email the report to you, with photographs of what we found. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Findings are explained in plain words, with recommendations.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation builds up when air cannot move, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.

What a survey costs

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included.

Getting in touch

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • When you need the report by
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Roof faults rarely stay the same size. A single gap lets water onto the timbers underneath, and damp timber slowly weakens. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

Before booking any surveyor

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether the price includes VAT

Why roofs fail

Not every roof problem comes from outside. Poor ventilation lets condensation build up in the loft, and the damp gets into timbers and insulation. It is often mistaken for a leak, and it needs a different fix.

We’re frequently asked to look at:

  • Loose ridge or hip tiles
  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
  • Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
  • Worn or blocked valleys

PO9 questions

How do I arrange a roof survey in PO9?

To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Do you look in the roof space?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?

No. If we see signs that need an engineer, like serious sagging, we’ll say so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.

How soon is the report ready?

The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.

Can you look at a roof that’s joined to next door?

Yes. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.
