Havant Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes for Havant, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photos.
- Gutters full of debris and silt
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
How the survey works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a home in Havant, the main things we need are a way into the loft, a route to the back garden and somewhere to park. If you will not be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
Booking a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Gutter survey in Havant
Some gutters are easy to see from the street, but many aren’t. Valley gutters between slopes, gutters behind parapet walls and box or secret gutters can send water indoors when they overflow. We inspect them as far as it is safe to see them using vantage points, the loft space and the roof itself where safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. Typical surveys look at sagging gutters and loose brackets and leaking or loose downpipes, across parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and valley gutters.
Around Havant, semis and terraces share chimneys, gutters and roof lines with the house next door. A shared chimney stack or a gutter run across two houses means a defect may sit partly on someone else’s property. Shared parts are looked at as far as they can safely be seen from the property we are surveying. It is useful to mention any shared stacks or gutters when booking.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Havant
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic gutters move with heat and cold, and in time their joints can drip. Cast iron joints can corrode and part once the paint has worn away.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Cracked or loose downpipes
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Trosnant Infant School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- What experience they bring
Landlords, agents and block managers in Havant
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the gutter, with photos, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Your questions about gutter surveys in Havant
I let a flat near Havant station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is the coastal weather around Havant hard on roofs?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details like ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Does the season matter for a gutter survey?
There’s no wrong time. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later, because the walls take the water.

Why act early in Havant
Damp walls are sometimes blamed on the wrong thing. If a leaking gutter or downpipe is the source, other work on the wall won’t stop it. A gutter survey helps rule the rainwater system in or out. Once water reaches the loft insulation in a home in Havant, it loses much of its value and is slow to dry. That is an extra cost on top of the roof work itself.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Useful tips for Havant property owners
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Watch the gutters during heavy rain
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Have gutters cleared at least once a year
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so you can arrange a drain survey. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Watch your gutters from ground level or a window during heavy rain. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before damage builds up.
Gutter surveys around Havant
Havant lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. With Warblington Castle about 1.5 miles south-east, Havant sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Francis, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you let a flat or house near Havant station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

It is a careful look at the gutter, not the whole story. Its limits include:

- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
