Roof survey in Weavers Down: what you get
We survey roofs in Weavers Down and across London and South East England. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. Older buildings in small places like Weavers Down may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Can I check my roof myself?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

Your questions about roof surveys in Weavers Down
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Weavers Down?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you cover smaller places like Weavers Down?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Do you inspect the roof from on top?
Where it is safe, yes. We also inspect from the ground, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. On Premium, a drone is used where applicable.
How the survey works
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit usually takes about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. For a village or hamlet like Weavers Down, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from the ground, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photographs and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

We confirm the price for your survey before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Which survey package you book
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The size of the roof
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Weavers Down
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.
If you let a flat or house near Liphook station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roof coverings
Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets.
Natural slate
From the loft, we look at the underside of a slate roof. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none.
When to book a survey in Weavers Down
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack. Lead is also a target for theft.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
If you look after a building like Liphook Church of England Controlled Junior School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- What insurance they carry
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
