Roof surveys in GU30

Our roof survey service in GU30

Three packages cover most roofs: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, such as moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Each one comes with a written report. We survey the roof space, ridges, hips and valleys and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters.

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. We start with the property details and any concerns.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
  3. Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
  4. Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
  5. You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

Homes and roofs across GU30

Owners across GU30, from Liphook, Milland and Weavers Down to the villages, book us to find out where their roof stands. Small faults, caught early, are far easier to deal with.

Our area covers London and the South East, including GU30. London and South East England have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.

Liphook: Anyone responsible for a site like Bohunt School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you let a flat or house near Liphook station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Tips that help

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
  • Make sure we can open the loft hatch
  • Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
  • Mention any damp patches when you book

Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. The photos show what we found and where, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Plan a roof survey every few years, or sooner after severe weather. Regular checks catch problems while they’re small. Compare each report with the last.

What happens if roof problems are left?

It’s easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than calling someone out after a storm.

What to check before booking

  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay plain and peg tiles

Clay tiles are common on older South East homes, and some have Kent peg tiles held by pegs. Rotten pegs and battens let tiles move, leaving gaps along the courses.

Chimney stacks

Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are looked at, as far as we can safely see them. We note any lean or loose pots.

Signs you need a roof survey

The coverings are rarely the first thing to fail. On slate roofs, corroded nails let slates slip, which is known as ‘nail fatigue’. On tiled roofs, the battens or pegs may be what’s gone.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
  • Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
  • Worn lead at chimneys and abutments

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Common questions in GU30

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long will you be at the property?

The visit typically takes between one and two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.

How do I arrange a roof survey in GU30?
