Roof survey in GU26: how it works
Roofs vary a lot across London and the South East. If your home is a Victorian terrace, it may have Welsh slate, a butterfly roof and parapet gutters, while many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles. We adapt the survey to the roof in front of us. Some older homes have clay tiles, and many have a flat-roofed extension as well. Each part is checked in the way that suits it. We survey the roof space, ridges, hips and valleys and natural slate, and the problems we are asked to look at most are loose ridge or hip tiles and slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles.
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
What you will pay
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Homes and roofs across GU26
Across GU26, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, in Shottermill, Grayshott and Beacon Hill and well beyond. Each report sets out what was seen, with photos and recommendations.
Our area covers London and the South East, including GU26. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates.
Grayshott: If you live in an older home near Church of St Luke, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. If you look after a building such as Grayshott Church of England Controlled Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Surveys for landlords and agents in GU26
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Why roofs fail
Wherever a roof meets a wall, a chimney or another roof, a flashing keeps water out. Over time lead flashings split, lift or work loose, and mortar fillets crack away from the wall. Lead is also a target for theft.
Common reasons to book include:
- Debris building up in roof valleys
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
What this survey cannot tell you
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
GU26 questions
Do you inspect the roof from on top?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We also inspect from the ground, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will explain what’s needed.
How do I arrange a roof survey in GU26?
To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
