Roof Survey in Chineham
Need a roof survey in Chineham? We can help, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Weekday and weekend visits available.
- Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
What we are asked to look at in Chineham
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack. Lead is also a target for theft.
Problems we come across often include:
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
Living close to Eastrop Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

About our roof survey in Chineham
A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it is safe to get in. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations. Where it’s relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. If you’ve noticed gaps in the roof where coverings have gone and leaking gutter joints and downpipes, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Chineham drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. It’s the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from ground level.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

FAQs for Chineham
Is my home in Chineham listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will you come out to Chineham?
Yes. Chineham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. Our report notes any materials that might, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.
Do you look in the loft space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
How soon is the report ready?
It depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We do not give a number of years. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it’s wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roof coverings
Ponding, blistering, splits and cracked surfaces are the common warning signs. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets, since leaks often start there.
Natural slate
Inside the roof space, we check what’s under the slates. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none.
What we do, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Homes around Chineham often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Check the roof from the ground after storms
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Keep a record of damp patches and dates
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
Keep the report with your property records. It’s a useful baseline for future surveys, and it can help when you sell.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear of leaves and moss, particularly after autumn. Leave the clearing to a professional. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
Leave it or get it looked at?
By the time water marks a ceiling, it is often been getting in for a while. Damp spreads through insulation and timber before anything shows below. From inside the roof space, we can frequently spot it sooner. On a bungalow or cottage around Chineham, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
