Roof survey in GU34: how it works
There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Every package includes a written report. Common reasons to book are slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and gutters that overflow in heavy rain, on lead flashings, clay and concrete tiles and the roof space.
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Local landmarks in Alton
In Alton, that means homes and buildings near Church of St Lawrence, Saint Lawrence Church of England Primary School and Amery Hill School. Other local landmarks include Treloar School (1.2 miles north-east) and The 'Baker's Arms' Public House (within half a mile south-east). There’s a railway station in Alton itself: Alton station. A little further out are Allen Gallery (less than half a mile east) and Alton Community Hospital (0.9 miles south-west). Not far away are Holybourne Hill.
Homes and roofs across GU34
Homes across GU34 range from older properties with chimneys and lead flashings to newer houses with concrete tiles. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked.
Our area covers London and South East England, including GU34. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates.
Alton: If you let a flat or house near Alton station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. Bentworth Hall, about 3.2 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Alton. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.
Roof by roof
Concrete interlocking tiles
Interlocking tiles on shallow roofs depend on their laps and fixings. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted.
Flat roof coverings
Ponding, blistering, splits and cracked surfaces are the common warning signs. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets, since leaks frequently start there.
Checking the roof from ground level
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Prices for roof surveys in GU34
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Which survey package you book
For a price for your roof in GU34, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Helping us price your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- What made you get in touch
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Leave it or get it looked at?
By the time water marks a ceiling, it is often been getting in for a while. Damp spreads through insulation and timber before anything shows below. From inside the loft space, we can often spot it sooner.
Before you book any surveyor
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Their report turnaround times
- What they won’t be able to tell you
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Watch for slipped slates after bad weather
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Photograph stains when they appear
- Mention any damp patches when you book
Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. They’ll see each defect and its location, which makes quotes easier to compare.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.
GU34 questions
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as a figure. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, with recommendations ranked by urgency.
How quickly will I get the report?
Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photographs.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It is not a structural engineer’s report and does not include calculations.
