Burkham Roof Survey
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings for Burkham and the rest of Hampshire. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
About our roof survey in Burkham
We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it’s safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. Typical surveys look at slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and leaking gutter joints and downpipes, across ridges, hips and valleys, clay and concrete tiles and the roof space.
In a village or hamlet like Burkham, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What a survey costs
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The roof’s overall size
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
What to let us know when you get in touch
There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to let us know:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- What kind of property and roof it is
To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price before you book.

FAQs for Burkham
Do you cover smaller places like Burkham?
Yes, Burkham is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can a landlord with a rental near Alton station book a roof survey?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the building, including who will give access on the day.
How quickly will I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. It’s emailed to you.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We don’t give a number of years. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, with recommendations ranked by urgency.
How long does the visit take?
Allow roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. We flag materials that could contain it, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roof coverings
Ponding, blistering, splits and cracked surfaces are the common warning signs. Upstands and outlets are checked too, since leaks often start there.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Where tiles hang on walls or dormers, we check them too. Gaps in tile-hanging let water reach the wall behind.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Burkham
Lasham Airfield is about 2 miles from Burkham. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. The wider area around Burkham has a long history of building, with Hall Place about 1.9 miles south. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Around Burkham, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We check the roof from every safe viewpoint outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there’s safe access.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
How to prepare
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
Getting a price
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Advice
Common roof problems in Burkham
The underlay under the coverings matters too. Breathable membranes only appeared in the UK in the late 1990s, so older roofs often have bitumen felt, and very old ones may have none. Torn or sagging felt lets water through.
Problems we come across often include:
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
- Loose chimney pots
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
For landlords with property near Alton station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.
Before you book anyone
- What experience they bring
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
- When you’ll get the report
- What insurance they carry
What this survey can’t tell you
We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Natural slate
- Lead flashings
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Flat roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- The roof space
Can I check my roof myself?
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
