Roof survey in Bridgemary: what you get
Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Natural slate can last 100 years or more, and clay and concrete tiles commonly 50 years or more, but the fixings and underlay beneath them often give out sooner. A survey shows which parts of your roof are wearing. Knowing that helps you plan work before it becomes urgent. We’re often asked to look into worn or blocked valleys and flashings that have come away from the wall, across the roof space, ridges, hips and valleys and clay and concrete tiles.
Around Bridgemary, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from the ground.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Roof surveys around Bridgemary
Bridgemary is within about 2 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift, while driving rain finds any gap. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Matthew's, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. For businesses in and around places like Fareham Shopping Centre, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. If you let a flat or house near Fareham station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

How the survey works
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Homes around Bridgemary frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
We check the stack itself, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We’ll tell you if the flue needs a specialist.
Lead flashings and valleys
Lead flashings seal chimneys, walls and abutments. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped, and for flashings replaced with mortar or bitumen.
Practical tips
Getting the most from a roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Check the roof from the ground after storms
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
We email the report to you. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Findings are explained in plain words.
Look at your roof from the ground after strong winds. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.

Bridgemary: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Bridgemary?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Solent Airport is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bridgemary?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you inspect the roof from on top?
Where it is safe, yes. We also inspect from ground level, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. On Premium, a drone is used where applicable.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we’ll say so.
How quickly will I get the report?
That depends on which survey you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
Can you survey in bad weather?
A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can I check my roof myself?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
