About our roof survey in Wecock Farm
Three packages cover most roofs: a Basic Survey from £150, a Standard Survey from £250 and a Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, like moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. If you’ve noticed lifted, split or missing lead flashings and valley linings that have cracked or split, we can find out what’s behind it.
Around Wecock Farm, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Why get it checked now?
Valley gutters and parapet gutters are out of sight until they overflow. When they do, water comes straight into the house. A survey checks them while they’re still dry. On a bungalow or cottage around Wecock Farm, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Local roofs in Wecock Farm
Wecock Farm lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
The streets around a church such as The Hart Plain Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Anyone responsible for a site like Woodcroft Primary will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

What a survey costs
To price your survey, we look at:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- How big the roof is
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit normally takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Being in a smaller place like Wecock Farm doesn’t change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Keep pets in another room
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

What a roof survey doesn’t cover
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)

Wecock Farm: your questions answered
Is the coastal weather around Wecock Farm hard on roofs?
It can do. Within about 4 miles of the sea, as Wecock Farm is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.
Do you cover smaller places like Wecock Farm?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
How do I book a survey in Wecock Farm?
Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Signs you need a roof survey in Wecock Farm
Every roof takes years of rain, wind, sun and frost. Strong gusts work at anything that isn’t firmly fixed, while rain gets into every gap. What starts as one slipped slate can become a leak.
Problems we come across often include:
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Torn or sagging underlay
Historic houses like Warblington Castle, about 4.8 miles south-east, show how far back building around Wecock Farm goes. If you own one of the older houses, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.
Questions to ask before booking
- What they will not be able to tell you
- What experience they bring
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
