Thermal roof surveys in Wecock Farm

How a thermal roof survey works in Wecock Farm

Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If you’ve noticed damp patches with no obvious cause and gaps in loft insulation, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and loft conversions alike.

In smaller places like Wecock Farm, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Wecock Farm

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wecock Farm?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will you come out to Wecock Farm?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

What does the report include?

A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

How we price thermal roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • Which survey package you book
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • How big the roof is

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • Dates you’re working to, like exchange
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

Flying and imaging in Wecock Farm

Wecock Farm lies within about 4 miles of the sea, and coastal wind can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Woodcroft Primary will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Warblington Castle lies about 4.8 miles south-east, so building around Wecock Farm goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For an older house near a landmark such as The Hart Plain Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Wecock Farm is about 1 mile south-west of Horndean, in Hampshire. We survey roofs in Wecock Farm across London and South East England. Wecock Farm is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work for thermal roof surveys. There is also a page for Portsmouth.

Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: PO8 and PO7. If you need a thermal roof survey at a property on Stone Road, Milton Road and Eagle Avenue or anywhere close by, we can survey it. We also cover the places around Wecock Farm: Anmore (1 mile west), Lovedean (1 mile north), Horndean (1 mile north-east), Denmead (2 miles west) and Catherington (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Gosport (8 miles south-west), Havant (3 miles south-east), Eastleigh (14 miles west), Fareham (8 miles south-west), Hedge End (12 miles west) and Petersfield (8 miles north-east).

The survey, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Being in a smaller place like Wecock Farm doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

What happens if roof problems are left?

Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding them early can mean a smaller job. With lower homes, common in places like Wecock Farm, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Roof by roof

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.

What this survey can’t tell you

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • The condition of timbers we can’t see
  • A formal energy assessment

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.
