Wecock Farm homes and their roofs

The coast is about 4 miles or less from Wecock Farm, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. With Warblington Castle about 4.8 miles south-east, Wecock Farm sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live in an older home near The Hart Plain Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. For landlords with property near Rowlands Castle station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

Wecock Farm is about 1 mile south-west of Horndean, in Hampshire. We provide chimney surveys for homes and businesses in Wecock Farm and the surrounding area. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. For surveys nearby, see our Portsmouth page.

Surveys in PO8 and PO7 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We cover properties on Stone Road, Milton Road and Eagle Avenue and the roads around them. If you are just outside Wecock Farm, we cover Anmore (1 mile west), Lovedean (1 mile north), Horndean (1 mile north-east), Denmead (2 miles west) and Catherington (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Gosport (8 miles south-west), Havant (3 miles south-east), Eastleigh (14 miles west), Fareham (8 miles south-west), Hedge End (12 miles west) and Petersfield (8 miles north-east).

About our chimney survey in Wecock Farm

We inspect chimneys from wherever they can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft where there is access. With our Premium Survey, a drone inspection is included where it applies. If we can’t see part of the stack, the report makes that clear. Every defect we find is photographed and described in plain words. We survey chimney breasts, brick chimney stacks and flaunching, and common reasons people get in touch are a chimney out of line and frost-damaged brickwork on the stack.

Around Wecock Farm, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. It’s the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Signs you need a chimney survey in Wecock Farm

Stacks that were used for open fires for many years can weaken from the inside. Flue gases and damp can break down the mortar, sometimes more on one side than the other, which can make a stack lean.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Gaps where the stack meets the roof
  • Spalled or crumbling bricks
  • Staining on walls around the chimney
  • Gaps in the mortar around the pots

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Woodcroft Primary, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether you get a written report with photos

What a roof survey includes

Wecock Farm: your questions answered

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Rowlands Castle station?

Yes, that’s a common request. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.

Will you come out to Wecock Farm?

Yes, Wecock Farm is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

What will the report tell me?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Why is my chimney breast damp?

There are a few common causes: cracked flaunching, worn pointing, failed flashings, uncapped pots, or damp trapped in an unventilated stack. Our survey checks each of these and records the likely cause.

Do you inspect the flue?

No. A flue inspection, sweep or gas safety check is a separate job. We check the structure and weathering of the stack and any damp and flag anything that suggests the flue needs a look.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

How the survey works

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Wecock Farm is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
  2. Each stack is inspected from safe positions outside.
  3. Pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked and photographed.
  4. We look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft space.
  5. You get a written report with photos and recommendations by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

Chimney breasts and the loft

Inside, chimney breasts can show damp when water gets into the stack. We look at them and at the stack in the loft where there is safe access.

Chimney pots and cowls

Each pot is bedded into the flaunching, often with a cowl or cap on top. We check that they look secure and undamaged.

Useful tips for Wecock Farm property owners

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Check that disused chimneys can still breathe
  • Make sure fixings on the stack are secure
  • Check your stacks from ground level after strong winds
  • Use the report as a baseline for future checks

Once we have been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the pots, flaunching, pointing, brickwork and flashings, and any damp we found inside. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Have aerial and dish brackets on the stack checked, and moved if they’re working it loose. Removing unused fixings takes strain off the brickwork.

What this survey can’t tell you

It’s a careful look at the chimney stack, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • What’s inside the brickwork or behind render, without opening up
  • Whether the flue is safe to use
  • Areas we can’t view from safe positions

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
