Local roofs in South Gorley
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
Take a building like Hyde Church of England Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Roof survey in South Gorley: what you get
The report is written for you, in plain language. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where it applies and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. Common reasons to book are worn lead at chimneys and abutments and condensation or damp timbers in the loft, on ridges, hips and valleys, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles.
In a village or hamlet like South Gorley, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are frequently old. We report on what can safely be seen, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Tips that help
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Mention any damp patches when booking
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Keep the report with your property records
- Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
Your report arrives by email. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Findings are explained in plain words.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.
How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. It usually takes an hour or two for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as South Gorley, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

What this survey can’t tell you
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- A full building survey of the property
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)

What we check
- Flat roofs
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- The roof space
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Natural slate
- Lead flashings
- Chimney stacks
What we’re asked to look at in South Gorley
Blocked gutters cause a surprising amount of damage. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
- Debris building up in roof valleys
If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Ascension, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
Before you book anyone

- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

Checking the roof from ground level
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Why it’s worth a survey now in South Gorley
Hidden gutters and valleys can fail without warning. An overflow there sends water indoors. We check them before they cause trouble. For an older or listed building in a place like South Gorley, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Your questions about roof surveys in South Gorley
Do you cover South Gorley?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and South Gorley is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in South Gorley?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It isn’t a structural engineer’s report and does not include calculations.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, plus the roof space where there’s safe access. The report includes photos and recommendations.
How much does a roof survey cost in South Gorley?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.
