Roof survey in Hyde, Hampshire
A careful look at the roof at your property in Hyde, and put it all in a photo-illustrated written report.
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Debris building up in roof valleys
For landlords and managing agents
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
About our roof survey in Hyde
Everything we check, we check safely: from the ground, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it’s safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, which helps with tall or steep roofs. You do not need to do anything except give us access. Everything we see is photographed for the report. We’re often asked to look into torn or sagging underlay and gutters that overflow in heavy rain, across chimney stacks, ridges, hips and valleys and lead flashings.
Some older homes in villages like Hyde are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What a roof survey doesn’t cover
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- The roof space
- Natural slate
- Flat roofs
- Lead flashings
- Clay and concrete tiles
What we look for on each type of roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles commonly last 50 years or more. Slipped, cracked and missing tiles are recorded.
Lead flashings and valleys
Flashings close the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lifted, split or slipped lead is recorded.
Checking the roof from ground level
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Hyde questions
Do you cover smaller places like Hyde?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you cover Hyde?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Light rain is usually fine; heavy rain and wind are different. Strong wind or a downpour can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.
Will you check the loft?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We do not put a figure on it, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.
What do you check on a roof survey?
All the main parts of the roof: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.
Helping us price your survey
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- What’s prompted the survey
We survey roofs on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Roof surveys around Hyde
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
Take a building like Hyde Church of England Primary School: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Ascension, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. With Breamore House about 4.4 miles north, the area around Hyde has a long history. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.
Hyde is in Hampshire. We visit Hyde as part of our work across Hampshire, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Our Hampshire coverage includes Hyde. You can also see our page for Southampton.

How the survey works
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. For a village or hamlet like Hyde, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
