Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Hyde
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. We note where gutters are clogged or holding water and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. The photographs show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off, but they rarely get better. We survey downpipes, eaves gutters and parapet and box gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are brackets that have dropped or snapped and valley or box gutters that overflow inside.
Somewhere as small as Hyde, homes are frequently older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to.

Common roof problems in Hyde
Many people get in touch after seeing water pour over a gutter in heavy rain. Others notice a damp wall, a stained ceiling or a green streak down the brickwork. The survey helps pin down the source before more damage is done.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
Take an older house close to Church of the Holy Ascension: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits

On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hyde Church of England Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Your questions about gutter surveys in Hyde
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hyde?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is Hyde in the area you cover?
Yes, Hyde is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
How much time does the visit need?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, and longer for larger or complex roofs.
What’s the price of a gutter survey?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. For a price for your building, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
What happens on the day
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Older rural homes like those around Hyde can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
- We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground and from windows.
- Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
- Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
- We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Keep pets in another room

Prices for gutter surveys in Hyde
When we price a survey, we consider:
- How big the roof is
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Hyde
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
