Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Hungerford
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use the report to plan upkeep, and some buyers want the rainwater system checked before exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. If you’re worried about gutters packed with leaves or moss and soffits marked by water, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are frequently the first to give way.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the gutter, any defects and our written recommendations.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Roof area
- Height and safe access
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Booking your survey
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- Anything about access we should know
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

Questions from Hungerford
Will you come out to Hungerford?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Hungerford listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
What’s the price of a gutter survey?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The price depends on the size of the building and how easy the gutters are to see. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.
Will you check the loft?
Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
What this survey can’t tell you
Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Parapet and box gutters
- Eaves gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Valley gutters
- Downpipes
- Outlets and hoppers
What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Hungerford homes and their roofs
The wider area around Hungerford has a long history of building, with Breamore House about 4.3 miles north. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
Take a building like Hyde Church of England Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

How it works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Rural addresses near Hungerford can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Check we can get to the back of the property

Signs you need a gutter survey in Hungerford
Overflowing gutters in a downpour are a common reason to book. Others spot damp patches, ceiling stains or green marks on the walls. A survey helps show where the water is coming from before it causes more harm.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Ascension, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.
Before booking any roof surveyor

- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether VAT is added on top
Why get it checked now?
Water spilling from a gutter runs down and soaks the wall below. Given time, it can cause damp patches, damaged pointing and rot in nearby timber. Finding the cause now typically keeps the fix smaller. Around Hungerford, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You will know the figure before booking.
