Flying and imaging in Hyde
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Ascension, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Hyde Church of England Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Historic houses like Breamore House, about 4.4 miles north, show how far back building around Hyde goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.
Hyde is in Hampshire. Hyde gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful look at everything that’s safely in view, photographs and a clear written report. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire. We also survey roofs in Southampton.
Surveys in SP6 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Gorley Lynch and Hyde Lane or anywhere close by, we can survey it. We also cover the places around Hyde: Hungerford (1 mile west), Frogham (1 mile north-east), North Gorley (1 mile west), Blissford (1 mile north-east) and Stuckton (1 mile north-west). Further out, we also cover Totton (11 miles east), Lymington (14 miles south-east), Romsey (13 miles north-east), New Milton (12 miles south-east), Ringwood (4 miles south) and Barton on Sea (12 miles south).
Near you in Hyde
We work in homes and buildings around The Burgate School and Sixth Form and the streets around them. Nearby you’ll also find Godshill Castle Hill (2.5 miles north) and Fordingbridge Doll Museum (1.7 miles north-west). Open spaces near Hyde include Blashford Lakes and Linbrook Lake.
How a drone roof survey works in Hyde
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and standing water on a flat roof.
Some older homes in villages like Hyde are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

What else we do in Hyde
When you need someone else
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Hyde often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Hyde
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. In a small place like Hyde, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Hyde
To price your survey, we look at:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The address and postcode of the property
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
How the survey changes by roof type
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.
Hyde: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hyde?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is Hyde within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it can’t see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it’s safe.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
It depends where in central London. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Strong wind or a downpour stops a flight. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we can’t fly, we’ll arrange another day.
What if my home is near an airport?
Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If it isn’t given, we inspect by other means.
