Drone roof surveys for North Gorley homes and businesses

Drone roof survey in North Gorley

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed slates or tiles shifted by high winds and debris building up in hidden gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs alike.

In a village or hamlet like North Gorley, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

Surveys for landlords and agents in North Gorley

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a small place like North Gorley, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Why us?

  • Clear package prices, inc. VAT
  • Professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
  • Photographs and a written report every time

North Gorley questions

How do I find out if my home in North Gorley is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is North Gorley within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. If permission is not possible, we inspect by other means.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we cannot fly, we’ll arrange another day.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Drone roof surveys in North Gorley: local notes

Breamore House, about 4.5 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around North Gorley. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of the Holy Ascension, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Hyde Church of England Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What we do, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take about one to two hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like North Gorley, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates frequently point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
