Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Frogham

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. Typical surveys look at flashings that have come away and ridge pieces that have lifted, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.

Older buildings in small places like Frogham may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Frogham

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. Breamore House, about 4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Frogham. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

The streets around a church like Church of the Holy Ascension are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

When to book a survey in Frogham

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hyde Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Before you book anyone

  • When you’ll get the report

What a roof survey includes

How the survey works

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Frogham, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Checking the roof from ground level

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

Useful tips for Frogham property owners

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • House, block, shop or office

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • When you need the report by
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Questions from Frogham

How do I find out if my home in Frogham is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Is Frogham within the area you cover?

Yes, Frogham is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control. Book early if you think you may be affected.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

What happens next?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If it is unsuitable, we’ll agree another date or inspect by other means.
