Thermal roof survey in Frogham
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That is why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. We survey insulated roof spaces, ceilings below the roof and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cold areas below the roof and moisture around outlets and upstands.
Somewhere as small as Frogham, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What happens on the day
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Somewhere like Frogham needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Advice
Common questions in Frogham
Is Frogham in the area you cover?
Yes, Frogham is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Will you come out to Frogham?
Yes, Frogham is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
What conditions are best for thermal imaging?
The weather makes a real difference. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we talk through the forecast when booking.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know as you book.
How do I book a survey in Frogham?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Checking the roof from ground level
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

Drones, thermal imaging and Frogham roofs
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Historic houses such as Breamore House, about 4 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Frogham goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hyde Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of the Holy Ascension, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.
What we cannot see
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
- A formal energy assessment
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

Different roofs, different checks
Loft insulation
The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it’s cold out. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
