Thermal roof survey in Barton on Sea

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We’re often asked to look into water that travels before it shows and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, on insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof.

Places like Barton on Sea can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How the survey changes by roof type

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Thermal images of a pitched roof can still show heat loss patterns and some damp areas. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they cannot.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

What we do, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a smaller place like Barton on Sea, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

What a survey costs

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • What made you get in touch

Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, tell us about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

For landlords and managing agents

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Common questions in Barton on Sea

Will you come out to Barton on Sea?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Barton on Sea?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day affect the results. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.

Thermal roof surveys in Barton on Sea: local notes

Barton on Sea is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Historic houses such as Highcliffe Castle, about 2.2 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Barton on Sea goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Take a building like New Milton Infant School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St Magdalene are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Why it is worth a survey now in Barton on Sea

Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. In an older home around Barton on Sea, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than the original defect.
