Roof surveys in Burridge

Roof survey in Burridge

Our roof survey gives you a clear picture of your roof’s condition. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it’s safe to get in. You get a written report with photos and recommendations. Where it’s relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. We are frequently asked to look into slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and worn lead at chimneys and abutments, on ridges, hips and valleys, the roof space and chimney stacks.

In a village or hamlet like Burridge, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it’s usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

What affects the cost of roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The size of the roof

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

What to let us know when you contact us

A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • When you need the report by
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. For a village or hamlet like Burridge, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.

Related advice

Different roofs, different checks

Concrete interlocking tiles

Interlocking tiles on shallow roofs depend on their laps and fixings. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted, especially at the verges and ridge.

Natural slate

Inside the loft space, we check what’s under the slates. There may be old felt underlay, or none at all on very old roofs.

Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Burridge

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

Burridge: your questions answered

I let a flat near Swanwick station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.

Is Burridge within the area you cover?

Yes, Burridge is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.

How soon is the report ready?

That depends on which survey you choose: Basic within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. We send it by email.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can normally go ahead in light rain. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.

Do you inspect the roof from on top?

Only where it’s safe to do so. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the loft space. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Roof surveys in Burridge: local notes

Burridge is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.

Do you need a roof survey in Burridge?

A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
  • Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
  • Valley linings that have cracked or split
  • Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved

If you look after a building like Whiteley Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
