How a drone roof survey works in Burridge
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
Villages like Burridge often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

How it works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Burridge, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about parking near the property

FAQs for Burridge
Do you cover smaller places like Burridge?
Yes, Burridge is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
How do I find out if my home in Burridge is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it is useful to tell your neighbours about the visit.
What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Older and listed buildings around Burridge may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Tips from our surveys
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Drone roof surveys around Burridge
Burridge is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
Whatever the street in Burridge, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early. Take a building like Whiteley Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
