New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Burridge

People book us after having a roof replaced or re-covered and some new-build owners want their roof looked at. We inspect each roof as far as safe access allows, from the ground, vantage points, the loft space and the roof where safe. A photo report follows, ready to share with your roofer or builder. If you’re worried about cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work and offcuts and broken tiles left behind, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on loft conversions and dormers, ridges and verges and flashings and valleys alike.

Older buildings in small places like Burridge may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. For a buyer or someone with a newly finished roof, it’s worth knowing which applies, as well as what condition the roof is in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the new roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Older rural homes like those around Burridge can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
  2. We check the coverings, ridges, hips and verges from safe vantage points.
  3. We check valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves.
  4. The loft space and the rest of the property are checked for problems.
  5. You get a photo report of each snag.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

FAQs for Burridge

Do you cover smaller places like Burridge?

Yes, Burridge is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Is the coastal weather around Burridge hard on roofs?

It can do. Burridge is within about 4 miles of the sea, and coastal roofs tend to see faster wear on metal parts and more wind lifting loose pieces.

How do I book a survey in Burridge?

Just call 07833 053749 or email us. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

How much is new roof snagging?

Our packages start from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.

Do you need new roof snagging in Burridge?

A roof is hard for most owners to see properly. From the pavement, many faults are invisible before you pay.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work
  • Broken coverings left on a new roof
  • Offcuts and broken tiles left behind
  • Underlay ending short at the eaves

In and around Burridge, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • When you’ll get the report
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

What’s in a roof survey

Different roofs, different checks

Underlay and ventilation

At the eaves, the underlay should run into the gutter to carry water off. We check it where it is visible.

Slate roofs

Good natural slate is very long-lasting, so the laying matters. Cracked, slipped or uneven slates are noted.

What this survey can’t tell you

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder
  • Details hidden from sight
  • Whether the roof will leak in future

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Replacement roofs
  • Flashings and valleys
  • Loft conversions and dormers
  • New-build homes
  • Ridges and verges
  • New flat roofs

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Burridge homes and their roofs

Burridge is within about 4 miles of the coast, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Corroded clips and nails and lifted ridge pieces are typical of exposed roofs near the sea. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.
