Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Gundleton
Roofs vary a lot across London and South East England. A Victorian or Edwardian terrace may have slate, a central valley gutter and parapet walls, while many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles. Whatever yours has, the survey is adapted to it. Some older homes have clay tiles, and many have a flat-roofed extension as well. Each part is checked in the way that suits it. We survey ridges, hips and valleys, lead flashings and clay and concrete tiles, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are standing water on a flat roof and loose chimney pots.
In a village or hamlet like Gundleton, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Practical tips
Getting the most from a roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Mention any damp patches when you book
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Keep a record of damp patches and dates
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
We email the report to you. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Findings are explained in plain words, with recommendations.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.
Common questions in Gundleton
Is Gundleton in the area you cover?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Gundleton is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Gundleton?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.
How quickly will I get the report?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
How long will you be at the property?
On site, it normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Report times depend on the package.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Will you climb onto the roof?
When the roof and the conditions make it safe, yes. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where it applies.
Roof surveys in Gundleton: local notes
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Perins School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. With Hinton Ampner House about 4 miles south, the area around Gundleton has a long history. Older homes in the area may have roofs that need matching materials when work is done.

Honest limits
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)

How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit usually takes an hour or two for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older rural homes like those around Gundleton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We check the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the loft space where there is safe access.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
Booking a survey
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Roof by roof
Flat roof coverings
Some flat roofs have been coated over several times. If the covering would need opening up to know more, we say so.
Lead flashings and valleys
Most leaks begin at a joint rather than the middle of a slope. That’s why we look at them closely.
Common roof problems in Gundleton
Some damage starts inside the roof space. A badly ventilated loft collects condensation, wetting timbers and insulation. It can look like a leak, and it needs a different fix.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of All Saints, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.
What to check before booking
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Their track record with similar roofs
