About roof surveys in RG28
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, while others just want to know where they stand. The approach is the same in each case: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. We survey the roof space, chimney stacks and clay and concrete tiles, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are torn or sagging underlay and worn lead at chimneys and abutments.
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely. The survey typically takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photographs and recommendations.

Local landmarks in Whitchurch
Around Whitchurch, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Testbourne Community School, Whitchurch Church of England Primary School and The Red House Public House. The nearest railway station is Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, roughly 0.5 miles north.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters across RG28
RG28 has everything from older homes with tall chimneys to modern estates. Sooner or later, every roof needs its gutters, flashings and coverings checked.
We work right across London and South East England, from the Isle of Wight to Hertfordshire, and RG28 is well within that. We survey on any day of the week.
Whitchurch: Landlords with a home close to Whitchurch (Hampshire) station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of All Hallows, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Before you put a home on the market, it helps to know the roof’s condition. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Surveys for landlords and agents in RG28
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Landlords and letting agents in RG28 book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
Common roof problems in RG28
Not every roof problem comes from outside. Poor ventilation lets condensation build up in the loft, wetting timbers and insulation. It can look like a leak, and it needs a different fix.
Common reasons to book include:
- Debris building up in roof valleys
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
RG28 questions
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and recommends a specialist asbestos surveyor looks at them.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Do you cover RG28 for roof surveys?
