Need a roof survey in Foxcotte?

Do you need a roof survey in Foxcotte?

Weather is the main thing that wears a roof down. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and rain finds any gap it can. Small faults that start this way grow over time.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
  • Debris building up in roof valleys
  • Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
  • Leaking gutter joints and downpipes

If you own a rental within reach of Andover station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What a roof survey includes

Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Foxcotte

The report is written for you, in plain language. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. We are frequently asked to look into worn or blocked valleys and cracked mortar along the ridge, across clay and concrete tiles, the roof space and chimney stacks.

In a village or hamlet like Foxcotte, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. We report on what can be seen safely, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey typically takes between one and two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere as small as Foxcotte, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
  3. Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Advice

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Look for debris in the garden after high winds
  • Photograph stains when they appear
  • Leave roof access to professionals
  • Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too

Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It helps you see whether anything has changed, and whether work has done its job.

Have the roof surveyed every few years, and after major storms. Regular checks catch problems while they’re small. Each report gives a record to compare against.

FAQs for Foxcotte

I let a flat near Andover station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you need, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Will you come out to Foxcotte?

Yes, Foxcotte is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Can you survey in bad weather?

A survey can normally go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.

How experienced are you?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

How quickly will I get the report?

Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts with the stack outside. We check the flashings and mortar for the cause.

Flat roof coverings

Repeated coatings can hide what’s underneath. If the covering would need opening up to know more, we say so.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Foxcotte

Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Harrow Way Community School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St Thomas, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

How we price roof surveys

We confirm the price for the job before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What to let us know when you contact us

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
