Roof surveys across GU14: what to expect
Three packages cover most roofs: a Basic Survey from £150, a Standard Survey from £250 and a Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. Basic is a visual inspection with photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Each one comes with a written report. We survey natural slate, ridges, hips and valleys and the roof space, and common reasons people get in touch are valley linings that have cracked or split and crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching.
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from every safe viewpoint outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

Landmarks near Farnborough

For rail, the closest station is Farnborough Main station, roughly 0.5 miles east. Roofs, chimneys and gutters across GU14
Across GU14, from Farnborough, Ash Vale and North Camp outwards, roofs range from old slate and clay tile to modern concrete tiles and flat roofs. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are usually where the work is.
Across London and South East England, older homes frequently have slate or clay tiles, while many later ones have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed extensions and dormers are common everywhere. Each roof in GU14 is checked with its age and materials in mind.
Farnborough: If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Christopher, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. If you live near a park such as Snaky Lane Community Wildlife Area, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.
What this survey can’t tell you
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- A full building survey of the property
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
Useful tips for GU14 property owners
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Hold on to the report for future surveys
- Include dormers, porches and garages as you book
- Let us know about past leaks
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
Your report arrives by email, with photographs of what we found. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. Findings are explained in plain words.
Keep the roof space ventilated. A stuffy loft collects condensation, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow at the eaves.
Landlord and commercial surveys in GU14
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the addresses.
What we’re asked to look at in GU14
Some damage starts inside the roof space. A badly ventilated loft collects condensation, wetting timbers and insulation. It is often mistaken for a leak, and it needs a different fix.
Look out for signs like these:
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
How the survey changes by roof type
Natural slate
From the loft, we check the underside of a slate roof. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none, and we note its condition.
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are looked at. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
FAQs for GU14
Can you survey in bad weather?
It depends on the weather and the survey. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.
Do you carry out asbestos surveys?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Do you work in GU14?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, GU14 included.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, along with the loft where it is safe. The report includes photos and recommendations.
How long does the visit take?
It usually takes about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
