Roof surveys across GU15: what to expect
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, others want a check before selling or after years without one. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. We’re often asked to look into leaning or weathered chimney stacks and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings, on ridges, hips and valleys, chimney stacks and natural slate.
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
What you’ll pay
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Roof surveys across GU15: local notes
Older homes across GU15 often keep chimney stacks long after the fires went out, and the lead and mortar around them need watching. Gutters, valleys and fixings come next.
London and the South East mix slate and clay tile roofs on older homes with concrete tiles on many later ones. Each roof in GU15 is checked with its age and materials in mind.
Camberley: Trees in and around Tekels Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Anyone responsible for a site like Prior Heath Infant School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Why roofs fail
A chimney stack takes more weather than almost any other part of a roof. Mortar crumbles, the flaunching around the pots cracks and stacks can lean. Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts at the top of the stack.
People typically book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
Prices for roof surveys in GU15
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details. We will confirm the figure before booking.
Getting in touch
What helps most when you contact us:
- The address and postcode of the property
- What’s prompted the survey
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or email us and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Tips that help
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Photograph stains when they appear
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Mention any damp patches when booking
File the report with your other home documents. It’s a useful baseline for future surveys, and it can help when you sell.
Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, particularly after autumn. Leave the clearing to a professional. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- The condition of the rest of the building (that’s a RICS home survey)
- How the roof will behave in every kind of weather
GU15: your questions answered
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Is GU15 in your area?
Yes. We cover GU15 and the rest of Surrey. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Do you look in the roof space?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
When will the report arrive?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photographs.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. We do not provide structural calculations.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
