Thermal roof survey in Camberley

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp is not obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings do not rely on the camera alone. We survey pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are leaks far from where the stain appears and areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions.

For a town like Camberley, every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map, which shows restriction zones around airports and prisons. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning every flight. In the open category, flights stay under 120 m (400 ft) with the drone in sight.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Can I check my roof myself?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What this survey can’t tell you

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In Camberley, parking is rarely complicated, though it is useful to know about driveways or restrictions. The inspection covers what can be seen safely from outside, from windows and from the loft space, and from the roof itself where it is safe.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

How to prepare

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Thermal roof surveys in Camberley: local notes

If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Prior Heath Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as Church of St Paul are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Camberley

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Which survey package you book
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for the job before booking.

Booking your survey

These details help when you contact us:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. On homes in Camberley, the joint between an extension and the house is where a slow leak tends to start. A few wet winters later, it can mean new plaster and decorating as well as roof work.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Questions from Camberley

Is there anything to prepare before you come to Camberley?

Not much. Keep pets out of the way, leave side gates unlocked and have any old roof paperwork handy, and the visit in Camberley can get straight on.

Do you cover Camberley?

Yes, Camberley is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone cannot prove a leak.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
