New roof snagging in Hollywater, Hampshire
New roof snagging in Hollywater and the rest of Hampshire. We survey on any day of the week.
- Underlay ending short at the eaves
- Gaps at new flashings
- Cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work
How new roof snagging works in Hollywater
A new roof needs to breathe. Where vents have been fitted at the ridge or eaves, we check them and look in the roof space for condensation. What we see goes in the report. Missing or blocked ventilation can lead to condensation over time, which is easier to put right while the roofer is still involved. We record what we see. If you’ve noticed vents that weren’t fitted or are covered and loose flashings at walls or chimneys, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on new flat roofs, flashings and valleys and replacement roofs alike.
Somewhere as small as Hollywater, older cottages, farmhouses and converted buildings often sit beside a few newer homes. Older roofs there may have clay tiles, slate, stone or, in some places, thatch. Whether you are buying or have just had a roof replaced, each material has its own checks, and thatch is a specialist material, so we report on what can be seen. Older roofs may also have old felt underlay or none, and fixings that have done a long stint.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Practical tips
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- File all paperwork for the new roof
- Tell your roofer the work will be inspected
- Look for marks or cracks left by the work
- Send the snagging report to your roofer
You receive a photo-illustrated written report of each snag and written recommendations. Pass it on to your roofer or builder.
Keep an eye on the roof and ceilings in the first months. Early signs are easier to raise while the work is recent.
What affects the price in Hollywater
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the exact price before you book.
Getting in touch
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to let us know:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
Checking the roof from the ground
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
What new roof snagging doesn’t cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Legal advice on your contract
- Details hidden from sight
- Fixings and underlay hidden under the coverings
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

The survey, step by step
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos. As for time on site, it typically takes between one and two hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Hollywater, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- First, we note any deadlines and concerns.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, vantage points and the roof where safe.
- We work through ridges, verges, valleys and flashings.
- We check the gutters, lower roofs and walls for debris or damage.
- We send a written report you can pass on.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
How to book

Advice
Questions from Hollywater
How do I find out if my home in Hollywater is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is Hollywater within the area you cover?
Yes, Hollywater is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
How do I arrange new roof snagging in Hollywater?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
Are you insured?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Buying a home or a new roof in Hollywater
What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.
If you own a rental within reach of Liphook station, a roof report gives you a clear picture before you buy or settle up with a roofer. The streets around a church such as St Mark's Sacred Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
