Can I check my roof myself?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.

About our new roof snagging in Tadley

A new roof is a big spend, so it makes sense to check the work before you pay the final bill. We look for snags, faults and anything left unfinished on the new roof and around it. The findings go into a written report with photos that you can pass to your roofer. It is an independent check, separate from the roofer who did the work. We survey ridges and verges, new-build homes and new flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked or slipped new tiles or slates and debris left in gutters or valleys.

Tadley is the kind of town where older houses and newer estates sit side by side. Older roofs are frequently slate or clay tile, and many later houses have concrete interlocking tiles. Whether you’re buying or have just had a new roof, the checks depend on which you have. What sits under the tiles, from old felt to modern membranes, matters as much as the tiles themselves.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the new roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

New roof snagging in Tadley: local notes

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Material and age explain a lot of what turns up on the day, whether the roof is old or brand new. The wider area around Tadley has a long history of building, with The Vyne about 4 miles south-east. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live in an older home near Saint Mary's Church, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

Leave it or get it looked at?

You may not see a fault until it causes damage. An inspection before that point gives you a record of the roof as handed over. A defect spotted early can be planned and budgeted for, whereas a leak tends to force the timing on you.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

FAQs for Tadley

Is Tadley in the area you cover?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Tadley is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.

How should I get ready for a visit in Tadley?

The main thing is access, inside and out, plus somewhere to park in Tadley. It also helps to know about any leaks or earlier repairs.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

What’s the price of a snagging inspection?

The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Just call 07833 053749 or email us for a price.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.

When should I book new roof snagging?

As soon as the work is finished, and before the final payment if you can. That leaves time to raise anything we find.

Signs you need new roof snagging in Tadley

Roofers do not always clear every gutter and lower roof. Offcuts and broken pieces often end up in the gutters and on extension roofs.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work
  • Loose or badly finished ridge tiles
  • Debris left in gutters or valleys
  • Underlay ending short at the eaves

If you own a rental within reach of Midgham station, a roof report gives you a clear picture before you buy or settle up with a roofer.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Will the report include photos?
  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What to expect from a roof survey

What we look for on each type of roof

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles that don’t sit flat can let rain in. We note any that look out of place.

Flashings

Poorly finished flashings often show up on new roofs. They’re recorded with photos.

What we cannot see

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder
  • Parts of the roof we cannot see safely
  • Repair costs for putting snags right

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flashings and valleys
  • Replacement roofs
  • New flat roofs
  • New-build homes
  • Ridges and verges
  • Loft conversions and dormers

What we do, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In Tadley, many roofs join a neighbour’s, so shared parts are looked at as far as they can be seen from your property. Let us know about any known leaks, past repairs or building work when you book, so time on site goes where it’s needed.

  1. We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
  2. The new coverings, ridge, hips and verges are inspected where it is safe to see them.
  3. Valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves are looked at.
  4. We look in the loft space, where there’s safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
  5. We send a report with photos of each snag.

Preparing for the visit

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Getting a price

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
