Gutter Survey in Tadley
Not sure what state the gutter is in? We carry out gutter surveys in Tadley and across Hampshire.
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Cracked or loose downpipes
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
How the survey works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It normally takes an hour or two at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Parking in a town like Tadley is normally simple, but let us know if there’s a driveway or any restrictions. The inspection covers what can safely be seen from outside, from windows and from the roof space, and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Gutter survey in Tadley: what you get
Some gutters are easy to see from the street but a good many gutters are tucked away. Valley, parapet, box and secret gutters can overflow inside the building when they block. We look at them as far as they can safely be seen using vantage points, the roof space and the roof itself where safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. We survey parapet and box gutters, fascias and soffits and outlets and hoppers, and people most frequently book us about gutters overflowing in heavy rain and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water.
Semis and terraces in a town like Tadley share roof details with the neighbours. A shared chimney stack or a gutter run across two houses means a defect may sit partly on someone else’s property. We can only inspect what we have access to, so shared parts are reported as far as they can be seen safely. It is useful to mention any shared stacks or gutters when you book.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What you can safely check yourself
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Tips that help
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Look out for overflows when it pours
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
If anything in the report isn’t clear, ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.
Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back using someone with the right kit. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.
For landlords and managing agents
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.
Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
What happens if roof problems are left?
A blocked valley or parapet gutter does not spill harmlessly. It can back up into the roof space and the rooms below, frequently in the heaviest rain. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. Blocked gutters and downpipes on homes in Tadley overflow onto walls. At roof level, a loose tile or tired flashing does the same. Neither gets better on its own.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Tadley
A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whatever the covering, it is frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Historic houses like The Vyne, about 4 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Tadley goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.
If you let a flat or house near Midgham station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Saint Mary's Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you look after a building such as Bishopswood Junior School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

What else we do in Tadley
Tadley: your questions answered
Do you cover Tadley?
Yes, Tadley is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Tadley as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Midgham station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
The survey looks at whether rainwater is spilling onto the wall, through overflows, drips or damaged downpipes. We can’t see inside the wall itself, so we report on what’s visible.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey seven days a week.
When is the best time for a gutter survey?
There is no wrong time. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later as overflowing water can damage walls.
Honest limits
It is a careful look at the gutter, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
