Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Yateley

We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Yateley and right across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely from the ground, windows, the roof space and the roof where it is safe. Time on site typically takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The written report follows, with photographs and recommendations. We survey outlets and hoppers, eaves gutters and fascias and soffits, and the problems we are asked to look at most are gutters that have fallen out of line and water backing up from a hidden gutter.

Most homes in a town like Yateley are houses, so the roof is normally the owner’s to look after. Small faults, like a cracked ridge, a slipped tile or a blocked gutter, are cheaper to deal with early. A roof report gives you a list of what needs doing and how soon, whether you live in the house or let it. The photographs let you see the parts of the roof you cannot get to.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

Roof by roof

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Plastic can become brittle with age and crack. We check the joints, brackets and falls.

Fascias and soffits

Overflowing water stains soffits and rots timber. They’re looked at as part of the survey.

What a gutter survey does not cover

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
  • What’s hidden inside a downpipe
  • Hidden sections we cannot view safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Eaves gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Downpipes
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Valley gutters
  • Fascias and soffits

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. A visit in Yateley runs most smoothly with the loft hatch clear, side gates open and a parking spot in mind. If you won’t be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.

  1. You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
  2. The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
  3. We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
  4. The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
  5. A written report with photos and recommendations follows.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Keep pets in another room

Getting a price

Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Related advice

Checking the roof from ground level

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

Gutter surveys around Yateley

What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. If you live near a park like Ambarrow Court, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. If you own a rental within reach of Sandhurst station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

Questions from Yateley

How do I find out if my home in Yateley is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

I let a flat near Sandhurst station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?

Yes. Hidden gutters are a common cause of leaks inside, so they’re an important part of the survey. Parts of them may not be visible, and we’ll note that in the report.

What’s the best way to book?

Just phone 07833 053749 or email us. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Do you look in the loft space?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
