New roof snagging around Crampmoor
Historic houses such as Mottisfont Abbey, about 4.4 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Crampmoor goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. The covering on a house you’re buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest.
For landlords with property near Romsey station, it’s worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it. For an older house near a landmark such as St Swithun's Church, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

New roof snagging in Crampmoor
The best time for snagging is before the final payment, while the roofer is still on hand. If you’ve already paid, check before any defects or warranty period runs out. That leaves time to raise what we find. You get a written list of snags with photos, ready to pass on before the deadline. If you’ve noticed poorly finished verges and gutters or fascias damaged during the job, we can find out what’s behind it.
Being in a small place like Crampmoor makes no difference to the inspection itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages with roofs you’d like looked at when you book. Whether you’re buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Visits can be booked on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the new roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Why act early in Crampmoor
You may not see a fault until it causes damage. An inspection before that point gives you a record of the roof as handed over. Older cottages and farmhouses around Crampmoor can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for the job before booking.

Your questions about new roof snagging in Crampmoor
Is my home in Crampmoor listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Crampmoor?
Yes, Crampmoor is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Crampmoor as anywhere else.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Will you check the loft?
Where it is relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
How we price new roof snagging
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- House, block, shop or office
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
What to let us know when you contact us
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and give us a few details about the property and we will suggest the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

What else we do in Crampmoor
The survey, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey normally takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Rural addresses near Crampmoor can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, you let us know what the roofer did and any concerns you have.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can be seen safely.
- We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it’s visible.
- We look in the roof space, where there’s safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
- We send a written report with photos of each snag.
Before we arrive
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Tell us where we can park nearby
